Keep on dancing with Anna Halprin

Ce mercredi 29 septembre à Bozar, la soirée d’ouverture de la dixième édition du festival L’art difficile de filmer la danse mettra à l’honneur la danseuse, chorégraphe et pédagogue Anna Halprin, récemment décédée à l’âge de 100 ans. Lors de cette soirée conférence projetée, organisée par Contredanse, Sandra Vincent proposera une exploration dansée, avec l’accompagnement musical de Benjamin Franklin.

Limpe Fuchs is a composer of acoustic and visual happenings who creates sound with unusual instruments. Born in 1941, Fuchs came of age in the hedonistic, politically charged sixties. After studying piano and violin in the early sixties at the school of music in Munich, a city full of fertile, counter-culture creativity, near the end of the decade she started „Anima Sound“, a collective name for twenty years of ‘sound research’ with her partner, sculptor Paul Fuchs.

Gorgeous debut LP by a new Belgian duo made up of Annelies Monseré and Steve Marreyt. Steve has been active in a lot of places. I believe I first ran into his work as a member of the folk-psych collective, Silvester Anfang, but he has had his hands in a lot of pots (as it were). Annelies has a long recording history as well, with many fine and floating sides out there to prove it. The pair have known each other for a good long while. Steve appears on a couple of Annelies’ albums, and they previously worked together in a band called Luster. But Distels is a project different from any of their others.

Both Annelies and Steve have long had an abiding interest in traditional music of Britain, and Distels was created as a vehicle for them to explore it. The sessions happened in fits and starts over the past few years, but the individual pieces hang together beautifully as an album. Five of the tunes are traditional British ballads, the other is one authored in that style by Peter Bellamy (founder of the Young Tradition, and a key figure in the UK folk revival of the ’60s). And the approach Distels take to the songs is breath-taking.

Blended vocals, haunted keyboard tones, slowly-struck guitar chords, and stately drones create a densely inviting environment for these ancient songs of love, loss and longing. If you aren’t swept away by this music’s power, I dare say you have neither ears nor heart. Reportedly, Distels are already working on some new material. Let’s hope a follow-up comes together sooner rather than later. I’m not getting any younger and neither are you.

Frédéric Le Junter is a French experimental musical instrument builder, as well as a performance and installation artist. He is using self-made instruments and mechanical machines. He has already built 150 musical machines. He created similar machines for light and visual installations. He has also build external installations powered by water or wind to create sounds and music. He recorded five studio albums, two in collaboration with Pierre Berthet and one with Dominique Répécaud. He also recorded songs with Pierre Bastien. Fréderic will play in duo with Antonin Carette (fr).

Gangalai & Gourabai (b): Under this name are hidden Christophe Piette and Benjamin Franklin (both were members of the Belgian band R.O.T).  “A duet in the great tradition of the duet, the song in the great tradition of the song. Back to the Middle Ages or something like that but with a casio and a microphone.

Ce samedi 19 septembre 2020 à 19h, pour l’ouverture d’un nouveau lieu ‘AUTONOMIE à Anderlecht, je donnerai un concert aux confins des rêves.

 

A 20h, j’accompagnerai Danielle Berlier dans sa performance « Pour tout dire » (accompagnement artistique par Sandra Vincent).

Wow. Grâce à Jani Hirvonen, le catalogue du label finlandais Lal Lal Lal est maintenant sur bandcamp. Ô joie. On peut y trouver  la cassette ‘Constrictor’ de Buffle (parue en 2006) !

On y trouve aussi la compilation du festival Lal Lal Lal 2 de 2008 (avec notamment Buffle et Benjamin Franklin)
